The Mind Matters category was created with a purpose – to share positive quotes, thoughts, vibes, as well as personal struggles and techniques to overcome negative thinking, excuses and a self-defeating attitude. All of us, at one point in our lives, have struggled with a setback, a disappointment, bad choices or a negative life event (or maybe even more). Furthermore, setting unrealistic goals or perhaps having misconceptions about nutrition, exercise, our health or a lack of self-confidence have kept us from being our best, amazing selves.
Over the years, through much anger, frustration and resentment, I have read and learned that how we react to situations and our attitude toward those situations can and will dictate the outcome. To put it bluntly, experience is not what happens TO you, it’s about what you DO with what happens to you.
As such, we have to keep in mind that this life is a journey and even though we may positively change the way we react and behave to circumstances, it is an ongoing process. We will continue to encounter challenges or ‘bumps in the road,’ but once we learn how to make better decisions and healthier choices, the process is a much easier ride. Furthermore, finding ways to incorporate social support, or believing in something beyond ourselves can aid in transitioning from negative thoughts and behaviors.
I welcome your thoughts on this section of the blog and am always eager to learn how you may handle life’s daily stressors or potential barriers. Heck, even if you have a funny story on how you handled or should’ve handled a situation, we would love to hear about it. As the saying goes, ‘we learn best when we learn from someone else’s mistakes and our own.’
